Mechatronics engineering is an interdisciplinary engineering field that aims to design and implement intelligent control and automation systems using methods and technologies from electrical-electronics, mechanical, and software engineering. With the integration of these different disciplines, mechatronics engineering finds application in a wide range of areas such as manufacturing systems, building automation, automotive industry, automatic pilots and unmanned aerial vehicles in aviation, defense industry, medical applications, testing and measurement systems, assembly industry, and robotics systems.
Mechatronics engineering is a developed engineering discipline that has emerged as a result of the technological advancements we have experienced in recent years. Those who receive education in this field will be individuals who can solve problems using an interdisciplinary approach (mechanical, electrical, and computer science). Mechatronics engineering has applications in various sectors including manufacturing, automotive, aviation, defense systems, and medical sectors, among others. Mechatronics engineers have the opportunity to easily find employment in workplaces that develop high-tech, advanced automation products supported by computer-aided manufacturing systems. In other words, considering today and especially the near future, mechatronics engineering can be seen as an engineering field of both today and the future.
The Mechatronics Engineering Program at Işık University is developed based on the foundation of mechanical engineering. Approximately 60% of the program consists of courses belonging to the discipline of mechanical engineering, while the remaining part is dedicated to electrical-electronics fundamentals and computer applications. The undergraduate program in mechatronics engineering at our department provides an excellent foundation not only for those who choose mechatronics engineering as a profession but also for those who aim to pursue different fields or pursue a master's degree in related subjects. A program has been designed where skills such as analysis, problem-solving, logical reasoning, reaching conclusions, creative thinking, teamwork, and communication are spread across courses and provided in a systematic and structured manner in conjunction with professional knowledge. The mechatronics engineering program is regularly updated considering the technological requirements of our time. Moreover, the instruction language being English also provides students with the opportunity to enhance their general skills in a wide range of technical literature.
In order to gain international experience, the implementation of exchange programs such as Erasmus and the application of Double Major (DM) and Minor (MN) programs with other engineering and/or non-engineering programs can also be considered as another advantageous aspect of the Mechatronics Engineering program at Işık University.
