Our department has a BIOPAC MP36 unit for physiological data collection and analysis. This unit can take the following measurements:
- Heart rate, basic electrocardiography (ECG/ECG)
- 'Brain waves', basic electroencephalography (EEG)
- Facial expression, muscle movements such as blinking and startle responses, and electromyography (EMG)
- Pulse
- Electrodermal activity (EDA), also known as skin conductance or galvanic skin response (GSR)
- Respiratory rate and effort
- Peripheral blood pressure (blood pressure), digital sphygmomanometer (sphygmomanometer) and stethoscope
BIOPAC is easy to use, but analysis of the data it produces requires intensive labor. Therefore, it is currently available only to faculty members and some successful undergraduate assistants.
