As its name indicates, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences brings together perspectives from the social sciences, humanities, philosophy and the arts. In our day, boundaries between professional fields and occupations are blurring and there is demand for multiplicity in intellectual perspective in all fields. The emergence of an undergraduate programme with a non-reductionist and holistic perspective is essential in the development of the educational system. As "generalists" equipped with a broad-based training, graduates of this program can draw on a vision shaped by multi-faceted interpretations of global issues and processes to provide rapid and efficient solutions. With its innovative approach to education, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences was launched to address the needs of the public and private sector.
The Department's goal is to raise graduates who are broadly trained in the social sciences and humanities, engineering, science and technology, philosophy, art history and cultural studies who are capable of bridging of disciplinary boundaries in their inquiry for solutions to problems. Students in Turkey are admitted into the program with university exam scores in the Turkish and Mathematics (Eşit Ağırlık / (EA)) category.
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences also offers to all the faculties and departments of the university elective and compulsory courses in Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), Science-Technology and Society (STS), History of the Turkish Republic (HIST) and Turkish (TUR).
